RNLI Pontoon, Oban

RNLI Lifeboat Station at Oban is among the busiest all-weather stations in the UK.

As part of RNLI’s ongoing commitment to upgrading their facilities, works involved the installation of a new berthing pontoon and associated gangway to improve emergency access arrangements at the RNLI Oban station.

The existing site had the Trent Class ALB moored in a dredged berth alongside a concrete ramp with timber fendering and held off the berth with a 4-point mooring system. The construction of the new pontoon berth required the replacement of the existing ramp and vertical ladder access with a newly fabricated steel pontoon accessed via a linkspan structure.

Other works included M&E upgrades, part demolition of the existing berthing structure, and reconstruction of a gabion retaining wall.
