London Gateway is a world-class container port and logistics park.

Located on the former Shell oil refinery site on the north bank of the River Thames. Before this project, the port consisted of three berths with associated automated container handling and storage facilities.

Due to increasing container trade and container vessel visits, the current port development had reached capacity and the quay needed to be extended and a fourth berth created.

Construction of a new 430m tubular piled quay wall, which was designed to tie into the end of the existing berth 3 while still allowing for the future construction of berth 5.

Additionally works also included landside container terminal infrastructure. Once completed, the new ship to shore cranes will run on crane rails mounted on the front quay wall cope beam and a rear piled crane support beam.

The project is being delivered within a live port environment with berths 1 to 3 directly adjacent to the site in use on a 24-7 basis.
