Redevelopment scheme at London Luton Airport

Works included constructing a new pier and link building, and a two-storey extension to three existing terminal buildings, which remained operational.

We also extended the existing boarding and arrival gates and reconfigured the international and domestic baggage halls.

We also refurbished the International Departure Lounge as part of our works.

The scheme involved amalgamating the two buildings into a single Terminal, increasing the floor space by approximately 25% to 925,696 sqft.

The improvements to the terminal reflected the airport’s changing demands, including changes to security standards, changes in passenger conduct, the growth of online check-in, and, most importantly, an actual and anticipated increase in passengers.

Both landside and airside works progressed within a live airport, which remained fully operational throughout the contract. The works were phased to minimise disruption to the functioning airport and to accommodate access dates for third-party fit-out contractors.
