One of the largest flood protection projects carried out in Scotland, the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme aims to build a state-of-the-art flood protection system to protect over 900 commercial and residential properties in Hawick against 1 in 75-year flood events and to do so with the minimum of disruption to local residents, businesses, the environment and wildlife.

The works include 6km of sheet piled and reinforced concrete flood defence walls and embankments, various culvert upgrades and diversions, eight surface water pumping stations, a new WwTW pumping station for Scottish Water, replacement of three footbridges, as well as the construction of 7km of new active travel network and associated landscaping.

Works also include a full upgrade of a section of the A7 trunk road which runs through the town centre.
