DP World London Gateway works begin

Date Posted 12.10.22

We are delighted to announce that work has started on-site to build a new fourth berth at the DP World London Gateway smart logistics hub.

On completion, it will lift London Gateway’s capacity by a third. Giving it more room to handle the world’s largest vessels than any other port in the country.

Following the enabling works phase, the main construction phase is scheduled to begin in spring 2023.

Works include the construction of a new 430m tubular piled quay wall, which was designed to tie into the end of the existing berth 3 while still allowing for the future construction of berth 5.

Additionally works also included landside container terminal infrastructure. Once completed, the new ship to shore cranes will run on crane rails mounted on the front quay wall cope beam and a rear piled crane support beam.

I am delighted that we have taken the next step in delivery of the new fourth berth and made clear our commitment to investing in and regenerating the areas where we operate. Over the next 10 years we have earmarked a further £1bn of investment in this country. The construction of the new fourth berth is creating 1,000 jobs and London Gateway’s rapidly growing logistics park will employ 12,000 people when it is completed in five years’ time. Our investment is a catalyst for the regeneration of one of the most deprived areas in the UK, which is currently in the top decile of deprivation.

Ernst Schulze

UK Chief Executive of DP World

The project has very much been one of trust, collaboration and cooperation throughout the pre-construction period and we are incredibly proud to be working with both Boeing and the RAF on this important project. We will draw upon our previous aviation and defence sector expertise to deliver the required infrastructure with no disruption to the ongoing base activities.
