Winter Gardens is one of the largest venues of its kind in the north of England

Featuring state-of-the-art amenities necessary for hosting modern conferences and exhibitions.

A combination of new-build extension and refurbishment works with direct links to the existing Empress Ballroom, Opera House, and Empress Buildings.

The project aims to bring the fantastic historical space into greater business tourism use, increasing its conferencing capacity to around 7,000 delegates. The main meeting space on the first floor can be split into four rooms using fully acoustic sliding walls boasting sound block boards to prevent noise slippage between partitions.

The work on the existing Grade 2 listed building involved refurbishing facilities within the Empress Ballroom and Opera House, including upgrades of the ballroom entrance foyer and east external elevation, upgraded audio-visual and air conditioning, basement reconfiguration, and upgrade of existing kitchen facilities.

This high-profile, prestigious site remained live throughout construction works, requiring disruption management, phasing, and constant liaison with Winter Gardens’ operational and production staff.
