Design and construction of Wester Hailes High School
This project involves the design and construction of the new Wester Hailes High School.
The building will be executed and certified to Passivhaus standard which is increasingly being adopted for schools and university buildings across the UK. This is due to the need for reliable building performance, energy savings, and benefits for occupant comfort and learning outcomes.
So far on the project at Wester Hailes, there have been many tests completed in relation to Passivhaus compliance. The final test was complete in August 2026 and passed.
The project continues to progress well as we move into the final stages. Decoration, snagging and cleaning are progressing throughout the building, including the installation of manifestations, mirrors and wayfinding signage, further enhancing the spaces as we work towards handover.
Once construction is complete and pupils have transferred to the new school, McLaughlin & Harvey will demolish the existing school.
The school is due to completion in late 2026 and is being delivered through the SCAPE Scotland framework.
