Design and construction of Wester Hailes High School
This project involves the design and construction of the new Wester Hailes High School.
The building will be executed and certified to Passivhaus standard which is increasingly being adopted for schools and university buildings across the UK. This is due to the need for reliable building performance, energy savings, and benefits for occupant comfort and learning outcomes.
So far on the project at Wester Hailes, there have been many tests completed in relation to Passivhaus compliance. A recent one was the primary full building air test after the successful installation of Intelligent Membranes Passive Purple. This surpassed the initial air test requirement of 0.6ACH by almost 130% by achieving a result of 0.078ACH. This is one of the lowest recorded results ever achieved within the UK. Going to show that McLaughlin & Harvey are pushing the boundaries and using new technology to benefit the end user.
Once construction is complete and pupils have transferred to the new school, McLaughlin & Harvey will demolish the existing school.
The school is due to completion in 2026 and is being delivered through the SCAPE Scotland framework.
