McLaughlin & Harvey becomes the first Northern Ireland partner to join Rail Safe Friendly programme

Date Posted 20.03.26

McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd has joined the Rail Safe Friendly programme, becoming the first organisation in Northern Ireland to partner with the initiative and the latest industry supporter working to raise rail safety awareness among young people across the UK.

Rail Safe Friendly, a programme run by Learn Live, aims to educate children about the dangers of trespassing on railways through engaging digital content delivered directly to schools.

Since its launch in March 2023, the programme has reached more than 4 million young people across over 15,000 schools, helping to keep young people safe near railway environments.

Through the partnership, McLaughlin & Harvey will support the delivery of vital rail safety education to schools and communities, reinforcing the company’s commitment to generating social value across its rail infrastructure projects.

As part of its early engagement activity, McLaughlin & Harvey recently facilitated a rail safety workshop at Omagh County Primary School. More than 480 pupils took part in lively, interactive sessions focused on promoting safe behaviour around trains, stations and railway lines.

The workshop featured engaging hands-on activities and demonstrations, giving pupils a practical understanding of how railways are constructed and maintained. It also highlighted the critical role of civil engineering teams in safeguarding the rail network and introduced pupils to potential careers in construction and rail infrastructure.

“We are pleased to welcome McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd on board the Rail Safe Friendly programme.

It shows collective commitment of the rail industry to making railway safety education accessible to young people across the country. We are thrilled to have McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd on board and look forward to continuing our mission to protect young people from the dangers of railway trespass.”

Their support means that we will be able to reach many more young people in delivering vital rail safety education in order to prevent injuries and save lives.”
