The development of Culham Campus aims to make the site into a leading global centre for fusion technology and the realisation of fusion energy. Targeting BREEAM ‘Excellent’, the Main Gate Project is the latest in works completed for UKAEA by McLaughlin & Harvey. Previously we completed, the Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) Phase 3 and STEP Offices.
In phase one of the project, McLaughlin & Harvey delivered a new welcome centre for the campus. The two-storey, circular building constructed from CLT beams and faceted glass curtain façade will house the campuses security control centre and offices as well as event and exhibition spaces. In the surrounding grounds, we installed security fencing and external lighting, a new entrance road, hard and soft landscaping, and resin surfaces.
In phase two, security was further enhanced with additional barriers, bi-fold gates, and lighting, as well as the removal of legacy buildings. Development of external spaces allowed for the introduction of additional staff parking spaces, landscaping, and outdoor furniture.
