Bringing together a range of primary, secondary and community healthcare services in Omagh
The first of its kind in the UK, it is a new two-storey modern hospital constructed on a brownfield site within the grounds of the existing live Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital.
Providing a wide range of hospital and community healthcare services, facilities include an Urgent Care Department, Day Procedure Unit, Imaging Department, Clinical Investigations and Testing Centre, Renal Centre, four GP practices, forty-bed en-suite ward, Children’s Services, Support Services, Operating Theatres, Endoscopy Unit, Women’s Health Unit, Cardiac Assessment Unit, consultant rooms and offices, treatment rooms, therapy rooms, and a Children’s Department.
The new complex also includes laboratory/testing facilities, diagnostic laboratories, clinical chemistry laboratories, and a microbiology laboratory.
The scheme is composed of a series of department pavilions arranged around glazed courtyard gardens and connected by glass-framed streets, which allow for ease of wayfinding and the maximisation of natural light and views.
This was a live site within the grounds of operational Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital, which provides acute mental health inpatient services. Therefore, the continuity of services was critical to ensure the adjacent functions of the existing hospital could continue with minimal disruption for staff and patients. Preventing vulnerable people from accessing the site was also critical, so special measures were taken to combat the risk.
