Bell Street Car Park transforms to new Green Transport Hub
This project involved transforming Dundee’s Bell Street multi-storey car park into a new green transport hub for our client Dundee City Council.
The main works project, delivered as part of SCAPE Scotland’s framework, included installing 350 electrical vehicle charging points supported by a solar panel array on the roof, a battery storage system, car share spaces, and an e-bike hire service.
The car parking is spread across four levels with EV bays, accessible bays and standard bays, which will accommodate every type of car and driver. The ground floor of the car park is now fully pedestrianised and includes information points and meeting spaces.
The main works included:
- Installation of EV chargers supported by a solar panel array on the roof with a battery storage system.
- A full mechanical and electrical upgrade
- Install of new feature cladding and construction of a ground floor cycle storage and bike reuse centre
- Enhanced landscaping with active travel routes designed with consideration of future active travel connections and development.
The hub aims to ensure that employment opportunities and economic benefits of the city centre are accessible by all of Dundee’s residents via sustainable modes which will assist the city in meeting their net-zero targets.
The cycle and walking infrastructure has also been improved by including an active travel underpass across the inner-ring road.
The green travel facility, operated by Angus Cycle Hub CIC, is scheduled to open in spring 2026.
