Inspiring future construction talent with a children’s book

Date Posted 02.11.26

McLaughlin & Harvey has written a children’s book designed to inspire the industry’s next generation of talent.

Titled Millie Builds for Tomorrow, the book follows a young girl as she discovers what goes into creating the buildings and infrastructure that shape communities.

The book will be distributed through engagement activities with schools. This furthers McLaughlin & Harvey’s ongoing commitment to social value and skills development across the communities in which it operates.

The initiative forms part of McLaughlin & Harvey’s partnership with Chapter One, a charity that provides one-to-one online reading support for children falling behind in literacy. The launch also aligns with the UK’s Year of Reading, a nationwide campaign led by the Department for Education in partnership with the National Literacy Trust.

Designed to be both educational and engaging, Millie Builds for Tomorrow introduces children to the construction sector and highlights the collaboration and problem-solving skills involved in delivering projects.

“Through our partnership with Chapter One, we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that reading can have on a child’s confidence. We hope Millie’s story inspires young readers to see themselves as the designers, engineers and site teams of tomorrow.”
