As the designated venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games swimming competition.
Existing facility was extended to include a new six lane, 50m warm up pool, as well as one thousand additional permanent spectator seats, a new fitness suite, an extension of existing changing facilities, upgraded café, and a general upgrade and refresh of the existing facilities.
Following final handover of the entire building, we were then instructed to carry out additional works, including construction of a further extension hall, additional poolside waterproofing, additional poolside lighting, provision of a new movable floor, and re-tiling works within the main competition pool.
Works were sequenced and programmed to ensure that the existing leisure complex could remain fully operational, in terms of both the wet and dry sports facilities, for as long as possible during the initial commencement on-site which focused on the new extension works which were on the programme critical path.
We were committed to providing apprenticeships and employment to the long-term unemployed. We were also tasked with the provision of work experience placement. In order to facilitate these positions, we worked closely with the Glasgow Regeneration Agency to ensure that the posts were circulated to appropriate candidates, to ensure maximum benefit to the local community.
