Construction of a new leisure centre with an entrance foyer, reception, café, pool, main hall, studios, changing at ground floor level, spectator viewing area mezzanine level, and a fitness suite and associated changing at first floor level.
The new leisure centre includes a 25m six-lane swimming pool, teaching / warm up pool with changing facilities and spectator seating, six court multi-use sports hall, community hall facilities, fitness suite and multi-use studios, café, tourist information, genealogy, local and family history, a venue for wedding ceremonies, civic functions, artists in residence, exhibitions and performances.
Works also included restoration / refurbishment of the existing Grade B Listed Town House which provides cultural and leisure facilities that are complimentary to the new leisure centre, and the relocation and refurbishment of a war memorial.
Traditional methods were used like lime harling, stonemasonry, lath and plaster, slate tiling, gold leafing, as well as bespoke joinery and carpentry.
