Construction of new marshalling and parking areas, and improved access road infrastructure to Kennacraig Ferry Terminal.
The ferry terminal provides access to the Island of Islay from the Scottish mainland for both freight and passenger traffic.
The upgrades provide much needed infrastructure to serve the increasing traffic numbers on this route, and was completed without the need to restrict access to the terminal or interrupt the sailing schedule.
Works included widening the existing narrow single-track causeway to provide a full width dual carriageway, with a dedicated footpath.
Reclamation works were undertaken to form new marshalling and HGV parking areas utilising 80,000 tonnes of locally sourced quarry materials.
Works also installed new fender piles, chains, and fender panels to the passenger walkway within a busy ferry terminal environment.
