Design & Build extension of existing quay by 160m to 385m using tubular piles with concrete precast units and insitu concrete for construction of the deck.
Completion of this scheme has resulted in Hatston Pier becoming Scotland’s longest commercial deep-water berth, and is strategically located for a renewable energy test site off the island of Eday, where a number of tidal and wave energy devices are undergoing trials.
It is also a major asset to the Orkney Isles tourism industry, as it will facilitate the cruise ship arrivals for what is the UK’s third busiest cruise terminal.
Feature of ProjectPiling Works
Piling works were carried out using a bespoke piling gate that was designed for the top down construction methodology used in this scheme. A 250t crawler crane undertook the piling works. This piling method was the same as that used in our previous completed scheme, Loch Ryan Port, demonstrating our application of innovation and lessons learnt on previous schemes to benefit our clients. The method negated the need for floating plant on what was an exposed site and reduced weather down time as a result.
