Stabilisation of a steep railway cutting on the Belfast to Larne railway line using soil nailing installed via roped access techniques and rail mounted plant.
The project followed previous unsuccessful attempts by others to pin the embankment, and entailed one hundred and forty-seven soil nails drilled to a depth of 10m and installation of geomat covering an area of approximately 5,381sqft. We maximised opportunities to conduct non-trackside works with access and working areas established from adjacent land avoiding impact on railway operations and optimising site and track safety.
