Upgrade of twenty-six track miles of railway line between Ballymena and Coleraine to increase the life of the existing track and increase line speed.
Works included the construction of a temporary maintenance pit and shed, welding of twenty-six miles of track, delivery of rail string to site, new formation with associated drainage for six miles, replacement of three under bridges, waterproofing of nineteen under bridges, ballast retention and embankment regrading.
Platform works were also included as part of the project due to concern over the stability of the existing platforms.
