Women in Property Central Scotland get Students Awards backing from McLaughlin & Harvey

23.05.23

McLaughlin & Harvey is delighted to co-sponsor this year’s Women in Property (WiP) Student Awards for the Central Scotland region.

Our involvement with the Awards gives us the chance to see first-hand the next generation of industry talent coming from Universities across the Central Belt into the built environment sector.

McLaughlin & Harvey Managing Director Paul Griffen, who was invited to participate as a judge, commented:

“As a judge at the recent Women in Property National Student Awards for the Central Scotland Region, I was so impressed by the calibre and confidence displayed by the students who reached the interview stage. Their research and knowledge of their “mini-project “was remarkable given their limited experience. They were a credit to their university and it`s encouraging to see these talented individuals coming into our industry. So much so, that McL&H approached one of the students to spend some time in our business.”

Partnering with WiP aligns with McLaughlin & Harvey’s social value pillars.  Social value is the added value McLaughlin & Harvey creates for society through our business operations to improve the environment, economy and social well-being.  Our work with Women in Property is helping us to continue ‘Building Futures’, creating career pathways and removing inequalities in employment and education.

Catherine Murray, a student who took part in the Awards is now on a summer placement with McLaughlin & Harvey.  She added:

“The overall interview process was a great experience. It was insightful talking to the panel of judges and learning more about their specific field of work within the construction industry. Following the interview process, I was very pleased to be offered a summer placement with McLaughlin & Harvey. I am thrilled to join the business for the next few months as it will allow me to gain hands-on experience working in the construction industry.”

The 2023 Awards are well underway with judging days having taken place in Edinburgh and Glasgow where 12  talented students were interviewed.  The winners from both the Edinburgh and Glasgow interviews, who will represent Central Scotland, will be announced at the Women in Property Students Awards Celebration & Summer Drinks on 31 May.   The two winners will then represent the region at the National “Best of the Best” Dinner at Claridge’s London on 21 September.
