Site X flooded

The final stage of the 700m breach in the existing flood defence at Site X was successfully completed last week.

This is the longest breach ever carried out in the UK, and has created approximately 580,000sqm of intertidal environmental habitat.

The area, which is adjacent to the River Thames, is now subject to regular tidal inundation and will promote the formation of a mudflat.
