Peterhead Harbour awarded

McLaughlin & Harvey and our joint venture partner Boskalis Westminster are delighted to announce that we have been appointed by Peterhead Port Authority for Peterhead Scheme 2.

The project entails the strengthening and deepening of the port, land reclamation with revetment, widening of the harbour entrance, demolition works and improved services throughout.

The harbour will also benefit from significantly improved realignment to the existing quay walls and increased draft which will facilitate larger vessels. Peterhead Harbour’s impressive development plans also include the relocation of existing fish market to the North Harbour.

While deepening the harbour, the dredged material will be used to create a 430,556sqft reclamation area for future developments, while maximising existing resources and achieving environmental benefits for the scheme. McLaughlin & Harvey along with the clients designer, RPS Consulting Engineers, has developed an innovative approach with the first use in the UK of an RD steel piling solution developed in Scandinavia.

This scheme is part of an overall redevelopment of Europe’s largest white and pelagic fishing port, it will take approximately 18 months to complete allowing the port to continue to support the economy in the NE of Scotland through 9,500 indirect jobs; generating over £800m.

The construction works will create over 100 full-time jobs with a number of local companies and businesses involved in the project. Upon completion, the project will support over 2,500 jobs within the wider economy.
