Glasgow’s iconic Kelvin Hall opens its doors

29.08.16

After a 2 year refurbishment, McLaughlin & Harvey are delighted to have handed over phase one of Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall which opened its doors on Monday 22 August 2016.

The iconic building, which has had various purposes in the past, dates back to the 1920’s. A unique partnership between Glasgow Life, the University of Glasgow and the National Library of Scotland has enabled the transformation to take place.

The building is now host to Glasgow’s biggest gym, and will also be showcasing collections from the Huntarian Art Gallery & Museum, and the moving image archives of the National Library of Scotland.

Monday 22 August saw the launch of the new state-of-the-art "super gym", featuring more than 100 cardiovascular, strength-conditioning, and fixed-resistance stations as well as eight-court sports hall, gymnastics hall and three dance studios.

Once the next two phases of the redevelopment are complete, the complex will be 2.5 times the size of neighbouring Kelvingrove Art Gallery.
