McLaughlin & Harvey has completed and handed over the new Royal Victoria Hospital Critical Care Unit to the Royal Group of Hospitals NHS Trust.
Works included the construction of a new 12-storey building – 2 levels below ground for services, and 10 levels above ground for accident & emergency, theatres, critical care units, and maternity facilities.
Our Civil Engineering department delivered the enabling contract for the 13m deep basement excavation, including the design of the permanent retention structure. The site was surrounded by multi-storey specialist units, these all remained fully operational throughout.
The new state of the art building will provide regional emergency and trauma services and first class regional maternity services to the people of Northern Ireland. The structure includes a helipad provision for future use.
McLaughlin & Harvey are currently involved in 5 other healthcare contracts; King’s College Hospital Critical Care provision; King’s College Hospital Helipad provision, London; Altnagelvin Radiotherapy Treatment Unit; Omagh Local Enhanced Hospital; and Altnagelvin Hospital multi-storey car park.
