Engaging with local construction students

15 July 2013

As part of our Lurgan Public Realm Phase 2 project, we registered the site with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and developed a Community Initiative Programme to ensure that we use the opportunity of working in the area to promote a positive impression of our Company and the construction industry in general.

As part of this Community Initiative Programme, we are committed to putting our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aspirations into action and ensuring that we impact positively on the local community. A major aspect of this is supporting education in the local community and where possible, providing learning opportunities through our site operations.

We were therefore delighted to recently welcome local construction students from the Southern Regional College onto site for a day’s work experience.  They were given a tour of the site and updated on project progress and forthcoming works. Our Site Managers, Cathal McKeown and Kieran Donnelly, were on hand to explain the works and to answer any questions they had regarding the project or construction queries in general.

This project, which is nearing completion, encompassed the upgrade of existing pedestrian footpaths with granite sets and kerbstones, while maintaining shop access for pedestrians at all times. The scheme also included the provision of new street furniture, planting, landscaping, new street lighting and services upgrades.
